Why Golden Beach?
Golden Beach is the crown jewel of Petries. Located just a 5-minute walk from the village center, it offers everything a family needs for a perfect day by the sea.
The water is remarkably shallow for the first 30 meters, making it ideal for toddlers and young children. The seabed is sandy with no rocks, so you can let the little ones splash around worry-free.
What to Expect
- Sand quality: Fine, golden sand — perfect for sandcastles
- Water depth: Very shallow entry, gradually deepening
- Shade: Natural shade from tamarisk trees along the back of the beach
- Facilities: Two beach bars with sunbeds (€8/pair), showers, and changing rooms
- Parking: Free parking lot 100m from the beach (fills up by 11am in August)
Best Time to Visit
Early morning (before 10am) or late afternoon (after 5pm) for the calmest water and smallest crowds. The beach faces east, so mornings have the best light for photos.
Getting There
From the village square, walk south on the coastal path — you'll see the beach in 5 minutes. If driving, follow signs for "Παραλία" (Beach) from the main road.
Tips for Families
- Bring water shoes for the rocky area on the north side
- Arrive early in August — the parking fills quickly
- The left side (facing the sea) is quieter and has more natural shade
- Snorkeling is best around the small rocks at the southern end
